Fluor’s office in Farnborough is one of the company’s main execution centres undertaking projects across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The Process Department:
The primary function of process plant contractors, such as Fluor, is to conceptualise, design and construct process plant facilities. Therefore, process engineering is the heart of our business. Process engineers must have a broad knowledge of both the technical and commercial aspects of our business, and also understand our Clients’ business drivers to ensure we deliver an optimal design.

Process engineering responsibilities fall into five general categories:
  • Support to project proposals and business development
  • Development of process designs
  • Support of detailed engineering design
  • Support to work in construction including plant commissioning
  • Management and organization of all project activities

During the early part of your graduate career you will mainly be involved with development of process designs and supporting detailed engineering. The main activities in these two areas are:
  • Development of the overall facility configuration
  • Developing the design basis and design criteria for individual units that make up the facility
  • Developing the basic processing scheme for the individual units
  • Developing a simulation of the processing scheme and optimising the unit design based on the various design cases
  • Determining utility, catalyst and chemical consumptions
  • Developing the process control scheme and philosophy
  • Contributing to the development of the physical layout of the unit and facility
  • Sizing and definition of equipment, piping and process control elements,
  • Assessing and advising on the HSE aspect of the design, including electrical area classification
  • Developing commissioning and shutdown procedures
  • Assessing process suitability of equipment prior to purchase
  • Performing a detailed review of the equipment layout and piping configuration, including hydraulic analysis.

Our Graduates:
The work during the 4 year training program is designed to meet the requirements of the Institution of Chemical Engineers in order to achieve corporate membership and Chartered Engineer status. This training programme is accredited by the Institution. The work will be primarily process design activities carried out in our office in Farnborough, but we do look for opportunities to have trainees travel to project sites or be based there for a period of time.

Basic Job Requirements

  • Accredited degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and some work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training achievement status accomplished
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
  • Practical field experience
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
