Job Description

The Directorate of External Relations aims to enhance the reputation of the University through effective engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, external and internal, and thus support income generation. It includes student recruitment and admissions, marketing, corporate communications, internal communications, alumni and development, web services, creative services and events and public engagement.

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Web Content Designer within our Web Services team.

The Web Services team have set ambitious goals to develop a sector leading website that will both attract and inspire our key stakeholders. As part of the project you will work closely with a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team to migrate content into our new publishing platform and work with stakeholders from across the University to maximise their content and ensure it is presented in the best possible way to users.

You will be skilled in writing accurate, consistent and high-quality copy, with strong editing skills and an attention to detail. You will be able to demonstrate grammatical competence and proof reading abilities.

The ability to manage a busy workload and meet set deadlines is also necessary. You will be happy to work with people at all levels, developing and maintaining strong working relationships with schools and professional services across the University.

Although this is a content role and not a technical web development role, you should have a broad understanding of web technology, content management systems and previous experience of editing websites.

Your priorities will include:
  • Use user-centred content design to create website content to meet user needs and make complex language and processes easy to understand.
  • Take a leading role in defining, implementing, and championing University content standards and the content style guide.
  • Help plan and define website information architecture based on evidence, research, and best practice
  • Engage with clients to gather content requirements.
  • Create content plans to define project deliverables and timescales.
Who we’re looking for:
  • Experience of editing a substantial website
  • A basic knowledge of HTML/CSS development using text editors
  • Web design and development with an accessibility and user-centred ethos
  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken, including experience of writing, editing, and reviewing web content
  • Experience of using web content management systems
