Call Handlers and Responders

Salary: £21,748 - £23,080 a year

Job Description

About this role
Our call handlers provide a vital lifeline for our customers through our Home Safeguard service. We provide 24/7 support making sure our clients get the right help when they need it. Our service operates in both emergency and non-emergency situations. So, if you want to make a difference and you’re helpful, calm and caring, then this may be the job for you.

In this critical role, you’ll work within our Home Safeguard team to provide an essential 24 hour telecare alarm service for elderly and vulnerable people within our community. The work we do makes a real difference to individuals and their families, enabling Service Users to live independently, safe in the knowledge that support is there when they need it. This is a unique opportunity to work in a truly rewarding environment where you can have a real, positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of others. If you can operate independently and enjoy talking to customers then we would like to hear from you.

As a call handler, you are expected to respond to calls quickly and efficiently, ensuring that an appropriate course of action is taken. Calls can range from service users seeking advice or reassurance, to calls requiring emergency assistance. You’ll answer telephone calls in a friendly and understanding manner. With the ability to keep a clear head, you’ll establish exactly what help is needed.

The control centre operates 24 hours a day / 365 days a year so weekend and public holiday working will be a requirement.

A valid driving licence and your own car are essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act), as is the need to apply for a DBS check.

About you
Reassuring and calm under pressure, you’ll provide our clients with the essential support they need in emergency and non-emergency situations. Good IT and communication skills are needed and previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage, although training and support will be given. The important strengths are that you have good common sense and can use your own initiative and be friendly and able to build rapport with those who may be worried or anxious.
