Job Description

The Microbiology Department at Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is part of an ever-growing UKAS accredited Pathology Department.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, energetic, and highly motivated individual to join our Microbiology laboratory team as a trainee BMS. The successful candidate would be working towards their registration and have an IBMS approved degree in Biomedical Sciences acceptable to HCPC with some experience of working/volunteering in a Pathology laboratory (preferably NHS).

Ideally, you will be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, aware of laboratory processes and systems and with a genuine desire to learn new skills and knowledge.

The laboratory processes over 210,000 sample requests per year, the Department is accredited for HCPC/IBMS training and holds UKAS accreditation status for its serology with bacteriology, and molecular sections to follow.

The laboratory has recently undergone a phase of modernisation with current technology such as, Maldi-TOF, Biomerieux Biofire, VITEK & BacTalert, BactecFX 400, Beckman DXI, DiaSorin Liaison, IQ100 Sprint analysers, Cepheid GeneXpert, Samba II, Roche Cobas, DS2, and Automate.

You may be required to participate under supervision in any of the shifts covering 24- hour, 7 days a week service which includes weekends, and public holidays.

The department provides good opportunities for CPD and ongoing education/training relevant to the job role will be supported. The laboratory is also a part of South 4 Pathology Partnership Network and works very closely with other Network laboratories.
