Job Description

Middlesex University, London, is recruiting two Lecturers in Fashion Communication (0.8FTE and 1FTE) to join the academic team of the BA Fashion Communication and Styling programme. We are looking for someone with experience and knowledge of the fast-changing landscape of fashion communications, including an understanding of the impact of new technologies, and social and economic shifts, that are influencing fashion and the wider creative industries, both as a practitioner and with experience of teaching and assessment at higher education level.

The ideal candidate will have some previous experience of academic administration, organising skills-based workshops, providing one-to-one and group tutorials, and assessing students’ work.

  • You will have a commitment to and awareness of equality, diversity and inclusivity within your professional practice, and the ability to understand the range of students’ experiences and needs to help support their creative experimentation, and shape their future career ambitions.
  • Your industry and professional experience and skills should focus on one or more of the following areas: fashion photography, styling, art direction, film-making, digital creativity, fashion curation, fashion journalism, as well as understanding theories of Fashion Communication, especially the impact of emerging visual literacies and digital tools.
  • You will be a committed collaborator who works effectively within the course team and wider Fashion Directorate.
  • You should have an awareness of sustainability, ethics and inclusive design practices.

You will be joining an established team of academics and technicians delivering a variety of undergraduate fashion degrees to a very diverse student cohort in the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries at a London university. Fashion is well-established at Middlesex University, with three BA programmes (BA Fashion Design, BA Fashion Textiles and Design, and BA Fashion Communication and Styling), underpinned by a Fashion Foundation Year. The facilities at our Hendon campus are second to none.

All recruitment decisions will be based on merit. A higher degree in fashion communication or a related subject, and a relevant teaching qualification or accreditation are desirable, but not essential.
