Johnson Matthey currently has an opportunity for a Production Operator to join our Noble Metals Business in Royston. The role will be working on a 08:15 - 16:30 Monday to Friday

Reporting directly to the Production Lead you will be responsible for assisting in the manufacturing of Platinum Group Metal (PGM) based alloys for a variety of applications within our Noble Metals Business Unit. You will utilise several procedures to process ingots into finished components for further processing or sale to our customers. You will also be responsible for inspection and packaging of materials.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring your own and your colleagues work is performed in accordance to all relevant Production and Environmental, Health and Safety procedures, promptly reporting any incidents or accidents to the Team Leader.
  • Ensuring full compliance with all EHS policies and procedures.
  • Follow operating procedures and standard work, record process information accurately using percentages and basic maths calculations.
  • Work effectively with team members, management teams and other key members to ensure delivery of production targets and customer demand.
  • Minimise waste to control costs within budget and assist with projects and all other duties as required.
  • Use measuring equipment (including micrometres and tensile testing machines) and SPC techniques to monitor and control product quality.
  • Submitting quality samples and preparation of inspection documentation.
  • Machine operating and set up in accordance to agree standards.

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have:

  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • A good level of English is required to enable interpretation of health and safety policies, risk assessments associated with departments activities, as well as process instructions.
  • Good vision, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination with the ability to make smooth, precise manual manipulations.
  • Competent user of IT systems including Word and Excel.
  • Experience of working with PGM products in a manufacturing plant would be highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and can maintain meticulous concentration.
  • Strong team player and actively supports team members as and when required.
