We are currently seeking a Materials Engineer/Scientist for our Materials and Corrosion Engineering Practice in London. In this role, you will work as part of a team to conduct materials, metallurgical, and mechanical failure analyses as well as product development and accelerated testing, with a primary emphasis on consumer electronics.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting a multidisciplinary team that collaborates to solve complex, real-world problems associated with the application of batteries, consumer electronics, and other materials science related topics across multiple business sectors for our clients
  • Contributing to business development activities and growth of a global team
  • Developing lab testing capabilities as part of a new and growing office
  • Managing small to medium size projects
  • Advancing Exponent's presence with new and existing clients in various markets e.g. through public activities such as conferences, publications and trade shows
  • Conducting technical investigations, field inspections, and reporting

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar field
  • Specialized knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray, or interferometry) is required, experience with X-ray CT is beneficial
  • Familiarity with electrochemistry, electrical engineering, or similar field
  • Specialized knowledge of electrochemistry and lithium-ion or other advanced battery technology and experience in failure analysis is preferred
  • Experience in the battery industry or a related field is beneficial
  • Prior litigation experience is beneficial
  • Must be able to convey complex technical information to individuals in engineering, business, legal and related industries
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams
