Job Description

Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) is one of the UK’s leading providers of Art & Design, Drama and Music pathway and degree programmes. The Sessional Lecturer in Fashion Communication will be responsible for teaching and curriculum development on the BA (Hons) Fashion Branding and Creative Communication course at CSVPA. The course explores the realm of fashion beyond the designer/maker. The post-holder will work collaboratively within a departmental team. We are looking for people to work 1 or 2 days per week in term time only. Lesson preparation time is included in the hourly rate.

Expertise in several of the following disciplines will be expected; image creation, moving image, digital media, art direction, layout, graphics, Adobe (and other creative image making programs such as Clo3D, Blender etc), creative campaigns and brand identity.


  • Teaching on the BA Fashion Branding and Creative Communication course and occasionally other departmental courses.
  • Responsibility for undergraduate students’ pastoral support, progress and attendance, maintaining records and liaising with colleagues as appropriate.
  • Module management; including liaising with visiting tutors, project progress, development and assessment.
  • Pedagogic and curriculum development that challenges the current communication of Fashion and promotes responsibility, diversity and inclusivity


  • Undergraduate degree in Fashion, Visual Communications or associated subject.
  • Relevant and active Fashion or Graphics Industry experience.
  • Higher degree (e.g. MA) in Fashion, Graphics or associated subject (Desirable).
  • Teaching qualification (PG Cert or equivalent) (Desirable).
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Desirable).
  • Experience of teaching & assessment in a higher education environment (permanent, fractional, or hourly paid contract).
  • Applies an inquiring, innovative and reflexive approach to teaching.
  • Considers equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching and assessment.
  • Shows commitment to understanding the range of students’ experiences within a course.
  • Collaborates and works effectively within team and across different professional groups.
  • Works effectively and respectfully with a wide range of people.
  • Evidence of research, knowledge exchange and/ or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of Fashion activity and is relevant to the goals of the Programme and College.
  • Evidence of using contacts within subject peer group to develop partnerships or collaboration.
  • Plans, prioritises and manages resources effectively to achieve objectives.
